References for TeX and friends

This is an improved version of the LaTeX help 1.6. We've added commands which were missing in the original version:

The efforts to improve on the LaTeX help 1.6 have evolved into the project References for TeX and friends. Look there to find the newest version of the help files.

Here's the announcement of the project:

We are pleased to announce the initial release of our documentation project "References for TeX and Friends". This is an ongoing project with the aim to provide help/reference files for LaTeX (and his friends like ConTeXt, Metapost, Metafont, etc.) using a state-of-the-art source format, aka DocBook/XML.

The initial version of this reference was adapted from edition 1.6 of the LaTeX2e documentation, converted to DocBook XML using texi2db (http://www.tldp.org/downloads/), and further edited manually.

Various output formats can already be generated out of this source file (HTML, TXT, RTF, PDF, MS WinHelp, PDB f. Palm Pilot plucker reader). More formats to come (especially wanted is 'vim help format'). Anybody is encouraged to write a converter for his own desired output format and contribute his/her solution. Because the source file is XML, the easiest way might be to use XSLT.

Anybody interested in contributing to this project should contact the authors. Your contribution is very welcome!

For more information see: http://www.miwie.org/tex-refs/

The old original (initial upload) files will stay here, as long there's no output in the Vim-Help text format. If you'd like to contribute and help to write a converter from XML (or using the HTML or text output as a source would also be possible) to the (simple structured) Vim-Help text format send an e-mail to us (look at the TeX-Refs Homepage :-)

Here is the text file which uses sort of a logic markup which is used in my favourite editor Vim. Of course you can use this plain text file with any editor/viewer/pager. Vim users can add this textfile to the Vim help as usual. Grab the zipped file here:

This old version in Vim help text format is only provided because no conversion to the Vim help format exists until now. For a more uptodate version allways use the link to References for TeX and friends and download the HTML, plain text version or one of the other formats, there.
