BltTest 2D Benchmark

BitBlt from Michael Herf is a benchmark for measuring BitBlt speed. This test is a way to showcase performance differences between video cards. Among graphics video cards, there is a large variation in 2-D video performance not captured by current benchmarks. However, this variation is very important in video playback and for software rendering.

Running the test

Download BitBlt from http://www.stereopsis.com/blttest/.
  1. Run on a completely idle system (no network cable or modem connection)
  2. Keep the mouse pointer away from the window
  3. Run in "True Color" or "32-bit Color" mode. If your system does not support 32-bit color use 24-bit instead.
  4. Take care that the resolution is high enough that the test window is shown completly. Otherwise the results will be meaningless.
The test has minimal timing overhead, uses DIBSections. BitBlt determines how fast a 2D scene is drawn on the screen by the means of the video graphics card. Reverse-blit performance shows how fast you can read back from video memory in software.
